NUR PROMOTES A DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS

Election is the process by which voters choose their representatives in order to gouvern them or organize them. In a representative democracy such as National University of Rwanda voters elect community leaders every new accademic year.
In a truly representative democracy all students can vote. The democratic process in NUR, also demands that students be permitted to vote secretly, in freedom from violence or threats.
NURSU(National University of Rwanda Students Union) is one of the most associations in NUR that deals with students daily activities. NURSU works under its constitution . in order to function the union should have its leaders elected from NUR students and those leaders are there to serve students interests.
One duty of students in NUR is to take part in the work of University by voting the class representatives who , in turn, go on voting NURSU LEADERS. in a class elections, the election are decided by the plurality with one of the several candidates having the highest number of votes being elected. After electing NURSU leaders they have to take an oath in front of the whole community  ensuring that they will obey the constitution of the Union. Among the stakeholders, there are some who can not be happy with the election results, there is not any association working like AMNESTY for example that will help them to rise their complaints. However for those who have not participated in election saying that it is not fair, you can not prevent them from enjoying the benefits of the won election. Some students complain about unfairness of election but it is the same as some leaders in Africa especially when they are not elected they go on saying that the votes have been leaked by electoral commission. So why that? This question can be answered by everyone depending on how he understands things, however one students in NUR told me that the reason behind that is the way they understand democracy. if they think democracy should be there when they are on power you can't prevent them from complaining because Article 19 of UN charter gives them the right of expression. An other thing which is very important is that voters in National University of Rwanda are independent no one come and force you to vote. Accordind to my observation I have seen that each students knows that voting is her/his duty. they know that they have right but also duties. Voting their representative is one stape ahead in the development of the community. Dear readers do not think that I'm biased somehow, this is a research based information it is true the NATIONAL UNIVERSTY OF RWANDA can be the example of Democratic society where every person is happy to stay day and night. Thanks.
