The EAGI ltd will use granites varieties that are mainly found in Nyagatare District to produce tiles. The depot covers 47 hectares of pure Granite stones that will produce different shapes and colors of granite tiles.
Kamugisha, one of the workers in EAGI underscored that factory will facilitate the growth of Rwanda’s housing industry by reducing the importation of tiles and lowering prices on the local Market.
“Our first attention is import substitution of tiles, we are assured that it will take away the hassles of time and unnecessary costs that contribute highly to the cost of Granite tile” said Kamugisha.
During the visit, Stanislas Kamanzi urges the factory owners to build a long term industry that will satisfy not only Rwanda but also the whole region
“We want a well developed industry” Kamanzi said
“The zone is full of Granites rocks that might produce enough long lasting building materials” Kamanzi added
In line with the environment protection, Hon. Minister advised the company to plant more trees around the factory due to the fact that these trees contribute so much in reducing Air pollution that would result in global warming.
“It is better to have a well developed industry surrounded by trees.” He said.
“Trees will make the zone look clean, new and attractive. They will also make the region smell pleasant” he added.
To prevent the noise from disturbing people living in that area the factory will have soundproof walls through which the engines noise cannot pass.
Hon. Stanislas Kamanzi advised the company to come and sit together to clearly define the project of building a powerful industry and asked them to keep doing more research to find out other types of underground resources that can be found there.
He promised them the government support where necessary in order to have a long lasting modern productive industry.
The East African Granites Industry is predicted to start producing building materials at the end of August, 2011.
Hon. Minister Stanislas Kamanzi also visited Katabagema sector and met people who live in Bayagaburire village where the ongoing land registration is taking place.

The Minister called upon Katabagema citizens to plant agroforestry species in order to protect their soil from being attacked by erosion.
“If you don’t protect your soil, it is like having the meal on a dish and let it fall down” He said.
The minister explained the role of protecting the soil and advised them to use the soil efficiently where he mentioned that there cannot be enough farm productivity when they don’t use selected seeds to soil fertility and improvement of livestock’s breed.
Gracien MURANGIRA, a farmer and a pastor in ADPR-MIMURI thanked the government to help citizens having the right to their properties and promised to work hard to gain more from his property.
“I am now secured due to my property being registered” He said
“Wonderful, only the paper justifying the ownership of my property will help me to join SACCO and ask for credits!” He said astonishingly.
“No land conflicts any more, I am going to work hard to make my property produce enough for my family and even the District” MURANGIRA concluded.
