Stakeholders discuss alignment of catchment plans into district “Imihigo”

Stakeholders in the two catchments of Sebeya and Upper Nyabarongo met in workshops at district level to discuss the catchment plans and agree on the implementation processes under the district and catchment committee coordination, Water for Growth reports on its website
Speaking at the opening session of the meeting in Rubavu District, the Vice Mayor who also chairs the catchment committee of Sebeya, Janvier Murenzi welcomed participants and urged them to contribute to effective implementation of the catchment plans.
“The implementation of this catchment plan should be fully owned by us. Ownership should be right from the farmers at grassroot level to top partners who support us in our district progress,” Murenzi said.
The Director of Monitoring and Evaluation and Planning in Rubavu district, Emmanuel Blaise Harerimana also presented the district Imihigo (achievements and plans) and called upon fellow participants to integrate the catchment plan fully to fit in the district plans.
In Nyanza and Ngororero, the landscape map was explained to participants who hailed the progress of the early investment projects that were established by Water for Growth Rwanda to help improve land use and control soil erosion through terracing.
The workshop in Nyanza was officially opened by the Executive Secretary of the district, Olivier Niyonshimye who thanked Water for Growth Rwanda for the support to accelerate progress in implementing Imihigo. He called upon participants to focus on what will drive development of the district.
“This workshop is also very timely because we are at a time of preparing our district Imihigo. Integrating the catchment plan into the district plan couldn’t have come at a better time than this,” Niyonshimye added.
More workshops will be held for other catchments. The workshops bring together, members of the District Hydrographic Basin Committees, representatives of ongoing projects operating in the districts, directors of planning units in the districts and representatives of Rwanda Water and Forestry Authority (RWFA) among others.
