The systematic process of tree planting will target the most deforested areas


 Hon. Minister called for a joint effort in 2011 tree planting season to make the country a more wholesome and happier dueling-place for those come after us if not for ourselves.
This was disclosed by the Hon. Minister of Natural Resources Stanislas Kamanzi , while addressing Kayonza residents in a community work held at Nyarunazi site in Rukara sector.
The Government of Rwanda through the Ministry of Forests and Natural Resources (MINIRENA) is to plant over 67 million trees in the country.
He noted that several hilly areas of the Eastern province are in urgent need of tree planting to control erosion.
Hon. Minister reminded the residents that planting trees is to protect environment while at the same time fighting against soil erosion.
Tree planting campaign aimed to ensure Rwanda’s part in safeguarding the planet for current and future generations and re-establishing the balance between human livelihoods and the environment they lived in.
Residents of Kayonza District were asked to actively participate in sustainable use of Natural Resources, adding that the Rwanda’s economic growth should base on rational use of resources.
In his speech, Lt. General Fred Ibingira in charge of Rwanda Reserve Forces said that apart from ensuring national security, the army also participates in many other productive activity aimed to improve the livelihoods of Rwandans.
He appreciated the collaboration between local residents and Rwanda Defense Forces adding that country’s development will be achieved if Rwandans are committed to working together.
MINIRENA will work with the Reserve Force in the implementation of the forest growing.
